Embracing Winter Solstice: A Time for Restoration

When the sun stands still and the long night begins…this is the meridian. The season’s turning the point where we leave behind the darkening days. It’s the astronomical advent of winter, a chilled time when cold air stills and quietens nature’s movement. Solstice is when we release the madness and struggle of the darkness to welcome the returning light of the sun. A time to embrace restoration and re-awakening.

In the darkened night before the sun arrives on the 21st, I celebrate solstice with a small sip of Winter Forest Elixir. A lovely warming liquor I mixed from nature’s elemental winter plants; tree resins, dried herbs, sprigs of evergreen, honey and berries imbued with exotic spices. This brew continues to transform becoming deeper and richer with each passing year, heightening my remembrances and expanding my new year contemplation.
