Cherishing Simplicity

The little forest is in-house – embracing our holiday mood. Our first snow came and went last week, quickly melting. But the seasonal cold and whitened landscape was enough to stir our urge to decorate in Christmas attire. We’re in that “Decking the Halls” frame of mind.

We’re not big on cutting fresh trees for the holidays….intensely dislike cutting, killing and then vacuously discarding these living beings when they are no longer useful as decorative objects. It’s our life nurturing gardener temperament that stops us from harming the trees.

Some years we bring out long held and much loved vintage ornaments and decorations, but this year we wanted touches of hygge in our holiday decor. The little forest is a simple, yet lovely representation of the living trees we love so much. Tiny pin-points of white star lights adorn a long swag of greenery that brings holiday sparkle to our living room.

We’ve added a new wall piece this year…a simple artist rendering that is 7.5 ft tall. I love it’s presence at the top of our stairs – full of nature in a simple, beautiful hygge manner.

Sometimes we need to remove ourselves from the crazy rush, reflect on and enjoy life’s simpler pleasures.
