Botanical Jewelry

Oh my boots! Do I love this silicone mold material….so easy to use, picks up the finest details and remains nicely flexible after it’s cured. I have been on a mold making bender this week (after finally getting our house sorted after 5 floods in two weeks time). The surrounding landscape is not safe from my hand shears and snips – every green and interesting type of bark and rock texture is on my radar.

I completed ten molds today and more are in the works. Next step is to drag grainy, highly textured rocks and fossil coral into the studio along with moss encrusted sticks. Let the texture games begin!

This mold material is a 2 part silicone product invented by a chef for making food molds. It is non-toxic, food safe and so easy to hand knead. It has about a 10 minute working window, which is more than enough time for the small botanicals I’m imprinting. Bonus: it’s an eye-pleasing blue color. Silver and bronze jewelry using these molds – to follow.
