Nailed It!

Another year – another birthday! My girls sent the perfect gift this year, a box of rocks. Yes – a.box.of.rocks. LOL As my husband was toting the freshly delivered box into the house, he asked “What is this? Rocks?”

In our family, the mark of a ‘keeper’ marriage partner is if they will move your boxes of rocks from house to house. We laughed when we opened the box. Yep! Sure enough a box of rocks, but not just any old rocks. These are rocks meant for my lapidary studio. Verdict is in…my man is a keeper. It’s also a good thing, we thank you tipped our mail delivery person at Christmas time. This unwieldy 30lb box of rocks could not have been an easy delivery.

I can hardly wait to tear into this array of pretties. There are agates of various types, carnelian, black — and mahogany obsidian, a slab of petrified wood, bloodstone, serpentine, several forms of jasper and more. Especially interesting is a chunk of a dark red rock that has a red crystalline structure embedded in red matrix. I have no idea what this rock may be, but it looks like it will make beautiful cabs. Research and rock ID diving will commence for this beauty.

Thirty pounds of absolute fun! My daughters literally nailed it this year with the perfect gift for their rock-headed mama!
