For jewelers, one of the best parts (besides bringing jewelry inspirations to life) is receiving the boxes of stones we order. When I opened this box, these stones took my breath away. They are everything I hoped they would be and more so.
Have you ever come across a stone like this? It is both mineral and gemstone. These are solid druzy quartz crystals that have grown from a clear quartz base. The clear quartz has encapsulated botryoidal malachite. It’s crystalized malachite/copper carbonate hydroxide – all natural and extraordinary.
I have seen many forms of malachite, but never this type of presentation with such sparkling crystal druzy displaying an internal, even field of malachite. The color saturation is astounding. This is a rare gem with very little available on the market. The mine is not producing much of this unusual and extraordinary stone and the price for this stone is rising.

When I saw this druzy, my jaw literally dropped on the floor in amazement and I wasted no time in procuring a set of these gemstones. The seller, Bud Standley, who is also a lapidarist, prepared these beauties by hand. He cut, shaped and polished the backs and edges of each stone I chose from his collection. What a pleasure to work with him….he’s very accommodating and knowledgeable about the stones and minerals he sells.
Hang on to yourselves! A collection featuring this gorgeous stone is on the way. I’m very lucky to be among a handful of jewelry makers to set this stone.

Sparkle rocks aka druzy, the color green and water clear quartz crystal make my heart sing! I am so excited to work these pieces into jewelry. Is this gemstone something you would wear? Tell me what you think about this exquisite, magical mine “find”.
