
Over and over, I read opinions from people who have a problem with “flowery” writing styles. Personally, I lament the loss of beautifully crafted descriptive phrases. There is a place for imaginative writing and it does not have to be perceived as unauthentic.
Our modern society has gravitated toward an acceptance of spare, harsh wording. Expressive, eloquent writing is in decline. It’s replaced with contracted words, acronyms that must be googled to be understood and blunt force written assaults on our senses. Clickbait, online article titles, deceptive and disingenuous are all the rage!
Yes, there are times when concise, emphatic language is called for and there are times when I use this wording style. Communicating – the successful transfer of ideas, knowledge and personal disclosures can be an artful form. Pleasant delivery of information is a goal, at least in my corner of the world. I like to use my words – be creative with syntax.
…and if I occasionally use big words or apply lengthier descriptions, it certainly is not cause to be labeled as a “flowery” writer with all those tasteless connotations. It is certainly not hip to use the word flowery to demean. Stop it! There is room for all and if you find my ‘no AI’ writing style objectionable, pass on by…….
