Vision is a Requirement

Life is never static. Mostly this is good…I would be thoroughly bored without change and new experiences. However, every now and then we are thrown a curve, a challenge that may — or — may not have a good outcome.

For the past several years, I’ve struggled with an eye that has become increasingly blurry. The vision in this eye slowly departed, while the other eye gas become the dominant carrier of light and color.

For a person working in the visual world who depends on their eyes to create, this is a frightening situation. I have not wanted to admit that it’s time to do something about my lessening vision, due to the fear of possibly losing all my vision to botched surgeries. But life has a way of forcing us to move forward. I recently had an eye event, a small area of detaching retina that dimmed my vision even further.

Long story short – I will soon have retina repair done in one eye and cataract lens replacement in both eyes. Maybe this will help my stumbling hand/eye situation. Dropsy McFoo** has become my alter name. I’m the poster child for searching for lost jewelry pieces under my bench. Thank goodness for my flashlight – it quickly locates those sparkly gemstones rolling about on the floor.

Wish me well and good fortune, as I embark on getting a refreshed pair of eyes. I am told that the surgery is safe and that the outcomes are wonderful. People rave about their newly enhanced sight after their cloudy lens are replaced.

It’s time to move beyond my half-eyed shadow world. Yes, life is an adventure, isn’t it?
