Haha…who gets super excited about an old stump? ME! …and hundreds of other makers. I’ve been patiently waiting for the perfect piece of hardwood to come into my life, but it has been a long slog. This past year, I’ve been in desperate need of something sturdy to take the force of pounding on metals and a ‘not easily moved’ base for my vise.
Yesterday, this gorgeous cut-off arrived at my studio. Large and heavy, a big round of an ash tree cut down in a private yard. Please understand, I’m not a fan of cutting down healthy trees, but at least this piece of wood will have an afterlife with me.
We evened the top surface, then placed this beautiful piece of hardwood in my studio where it is now a useful, treasured tool to form jewelry metal.
