It’s definitely Monday! We hooked up the oxygen condensor that will run my new Smith Little Torch. We attached it to the propane tank with regulator, ran the oxy hose from the unit to the torch, plugged in the condensor and…………….
The pump motor came on, ran for 5 seconds, then stopped. It did not pump up or condense any oxygen! If we turned it off and restarted, the condensor ran again for another 5 seconds and turned off.
Here’s the breakdown on our situation. We purchased the new torch and condensor from Rio Grande. Rio Grande only sells two types of re-manufactured condensors, but there is difference between the two. The first is simply a re-manufactured unit – the second is a re-manufactured and “used” unit. This is where it gets confusing. What we received was a remnfctr-ed used unit, not an un-used after remanufacturing unit.
The unit that was shipped to us has almost 50,000 hrs of use on it…at the end of it’s useful life. Really Rio? I expected better with this purchase from you.

Word of caution: if you are thinking about getting one of these condensors from Rio – thoroughly read the fine print – so you know exactly what you are getting. The trouble is the Rio fine print is almost non-existent about these condensers. It’s very easy to be confused by the slight difference in wording about the two types of condensers.
You might be better off to go to a local oxygen condenser dealer who re-manufactures these units locally. Easy to return if there are problems and will save on costly shipping back and forth.
Booooooo…..hate it when life goes awry!
